Mike Pasternak

Mike Pasternak is Chairperson of the Performing Arts department on the La Châtaigneraie campus of the International School of Geneva, Switzerland. He has also taught in the Canadian and British state systema In 1989, Mike accepted a two year Research Fellowship   at the Centre for Global Education, University of York, UK specialising in the research and development of Theatre and Interactive teaching/learning approaches for values education across a range of disciplines. He has been involved with International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) since 1981, was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1983, served as Executive Secretary from 1985-89, was President from 1998-2005 and is now an Honorary Life Member. Mike has worked with ISTA worldwide as a Ensemble leader, a Master Class facilitator and teacher trainer. He has been involved in a series of ISTA developments that have included IB TAPS, Performance Appreciation and, most recently, Teacher Enrichment programmes in the Arts. From 1995-2004, Mike was also a staff member of the European office of 'Facing History and Ourselves', an organisation involved in Teacher Training for Human Rights Education in Eastern Europe. He has published several articles on Human Rights Education, Global Education and Interactive Teaching Methodologies in professional European Education journals. For the past twelve years, Mike has served as teacher trainer and, since 2005, Deputy Chief Examiner of the International Baccalaureate Theatre Arts programme having led teacher workshops in Europe, USA and Australia/Pacific. He is actively involved in the study of the transmission of human values, the Arts and International Education having written the chapter on Values Education in the University of Bath's seminal publication "International Education - Principles and Practice". Other writing projects have included sections in 'Global Teacher- Global Learner' by Selby,Pike; a Theatre teaching pack on Child Labour for ILO (prototype of SCREAM); several plays created with students on AIDS and Development Education issues and a process focused anthology of student generated theatre pieces entitled 'What's the Issue"?
