In 2009 TVO began working with the Kyangwali refugee settlement in Uganda.  Kyangwali Refugee Settlement is located in Western Uganda, 80 km from Hoima. Kyangwali hosts approximately 23,000 mostly Congolese and Sudanese refugees. There are a small number of Rwandese, Burundians, Somalis, Ugandan nationals and Ethiopians also living at Kyangwali. Many of the refugees in Kyangwali lack food; clean water; medical care; freedom of movement; housing; an education – just about everything we take for granted. The number of people dying from preventable or curable diseases, orphaned, and facing a drastically reduced life expectancy is staggering.

TVO has taken on support of three areas within Kyangwali: COBURWAS, Anti-Violence and Right to Learn. For more information on each click on the links.

Acknowledgement
Our first trip to Kyangwali and the initialisation of this project were made possible due to the kind donations of various individuals and organisations, as well as the fund raising activities of many. In particular we would like to acknowledge the support of the BG Group and their LTI (Lost Time incident) free charity donation incentive,
The Zich Trust (SC037627) and St. Leonard’s Third World Group
